MAYAG Release to Sailors (1.0 – 24 March 2020)
To all sailors in the territorial waters of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, the Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada (MAYAG) are the focal point of the marine and yachting sector in the tri-island state. For the past week we have worked closely with the Government of Grenada on the development of a protocol to provide support and services to you at this challenging time. We delivered the protocol to the Government last night (Monday 23 March) and are hopeful that it will be accepted and approved. We unfortunately do not know the timescale on this as yet, but will send out an update as soon as we know more information.
The aim of the protocol is to establish clear and manageable lines of communication through MAYAG to the government, marine sector businesses and sailors to achieve the following:
- To control the arrival of qualifying yachts into Grenada whilst observing all Customs and Immigration (C&I), and Ministry of Health (MoH) procedures currently in place or to be advised.
- Prevent the illegal entry of boats into Grenada and the heightened risk of imported cases and community transmission of COVID-19.
- To offer humanitarian aid and a safe haven to sailors in international waters who will be in danger of losing their boats (homes), once the hurricane season commences.
We are very much aware your situation, wherever you are, may be challenging, frustrating and sometimes frightening. We are working hard on this and are there to give you the support and information you need in these times of crisis.
We advise that you keep monitoring our Facebook page and our website for more updates as we receive them and we thank you for your support and patience with this situation as it unfolds. Be safe and follow the Ministry of Health advice and protocols in place to prevent further transmission of COVID-19
If you have any concerns or questions about this then please message our facebook page or send an email.
